Dancing Lab: Dance as Cultural Diplomat Resident Artist

James Graham is a San Francisco based choreographer, performer, and teacher. His company James Graham Dance Theatre presents the work of Graham and other choreographers. JGDT has recently been presented at ODC Theatre, Micadanses in Paris, France, UC Berkeley’s Zellerbach Playhouse, Bates College, and in the Daegu International Dance Festival in South Korea. Graham has won two Isadora Duncan Dance Awards for performance and been nominated for choreography.

 

In 2007, Graham went to Israel to study Gaga and took part in Ohad Naharin's pilot training program of international Gaga teachers. Since then, he has taught Gaga extensively both domestically and abroad. He is currently on faculty at the University of California, Berkeley and Dominican University of California/LINES BFA Program.

 

Graham holds an M.F.A. from The Ohio State University and a B.A. from UC Berkeley. He is a member of Lisa Wymore & Sheldon Smith’s Disappearing Acts and the Joe Goode Performance Group.

Graham came to NCCAkron in March 2019 to participate in Dance as Cultural Diplomat, a multi-day symposium exploring the exchange between Israeli and American modern dance.
