Dancing Lab: Jazz Is... Dance Project | 2022

In November 2022, Lead Artist Melanie George (Philadelphia, PA) convened jazz artists from all over including Michele Byrd-McPhee (Jersey City, NJ), Jasmine Hearn (Houston, TX), Lauren Putty White (Philadelphia, PA), and Alvin Hill (Ann Arbor, MI) for Dancing Lab: Jazz is... Dance Project. Inspired by the democratic nature of jazz music and honoring its uniquely Black American roots, the Lab cohort journeyed through the jazz ethos – exploring the characteristic spirit of the culture and community as manifested in its form.
