Creative Administration Research

NCCAkron’s Creative Administration Research (CAR) aims to challenge the dance ecosystem to think beyond the boundaries of known, traditional models.

Artist Teams comprise choreographers and select administrative leaders (if the artist has a company or ensemble); a curated Thought Partner; and NCCAkron staff members. Each Artist Team engages in an artist-dedicated Investigative Retreat to reflect on their body of work, examine critical pain points across operations, and imagine multiple ways forward. The paired Thought Partner provides additional accountability in between Investigative Retreats.

In 2022 and 2023, all active Artist Teams will gather in Akron, OH, for a Summit Convening to exchange experiences and working knowledge accumulated to date.

The CAR Program is now open by application.Through this open application, NCCAkron will welcome a cohort of two Artist Teams. Selected artists will work across 2022 and 2023 with their teams on short- and long-term administrative experiments to support their own discrete artistic practices; and will be paid a stipend of $7,000.

The application is open from January 10-February 14, 2022.

CAR is made possible through a three-year grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
