ANANYA DANCE THEATRE

Ananya Dance Theatre (ADT) is an ensemble of transnational feminist professional dance artists who create original contemporary dance theater, upholding artistic excellence in social justice choreography. Inspired by the lives and dreams of BIPOC women/femmes around the globe, we work to dismantle hierarchies and build liberation. For 20 years, ADT has extended beyond conventions of dance-making and sharing: rigorous dance excellence can be a methodology of community-organizing and movement-building. Through annual creation and premiere of a new evening-length dance theatre work, through participatory public art gatherings, through classes and workshops, and through artist mentorship, we strive to build a multi-dimensional movement of arts for social change. As ADT honors and uplifts cultural specificity, we release ourselves from the narrow identity politics that constrain us all from building a multidimensional culture. Our dances, created through community-embedded processes, affirm the pain of current injustices and reveal the beauty and promise of a just world.
