Joe Bowie, MFA (he/him) is an interdisciplinary dance artist whose creative and scholarly research convenes at the intersection of Blackness, queerness, Black joy, and embodied storytelling. Bowie uses autoethnography for dance-making, place-making, and world-making in his work. His research unlocks felt and sensed narratives, layering the past, present, and future as archival choreographic methods. Bowie danced professionally for over twenty-five years in New York City, touring domestically and internationally with two world-renowned dance companies: The Paul Taylor Dance Company and The Mark Morris Dance Group. Bowie received his MFA in Dance with a Graduate Minor in Queer Studies from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and his AB with honors in English and American Literature with an independent concentration in African American Poetry from Brown University.
