Practices in the Name of Progress: Dancing Through the 21st Century

What does it mean to be a dancemaker in the 21st century?

In the 2019-2020 academic year, NCCAkron collaborated with The University of Akron to initiate a capsule series of visiting teaching artists every spring entitled 21st Century Dance Practices. After a six-year run administering this program, this digital dance gallery exhibition shares our research as witness to the 38 artists who came through Akron as part of this platform. These are some of the super themes we identified beyond the traditional curricular thinking limited by dance genres.

This digital dance gallery is NCCAkron’s latest experiment. Unlike a show playbill, a blog, or an article, we hope you will interact with this prototype and the material inside it at your own speed, with three possible paths to try again and again.

These are just a few ideas already in motion in the twenty-first century.
