About the Event
The National Center for Choreography-Akron (NCCAkron) hosts choreographer Pioneer Winter (Miami, FL) and the Pioneer Winter Collective (PWC) for an in-person Work-in-Progress Showing of Birds of Paradise. The Work-in-Progress Showing will premiere a newly developed solo portrait set on Gregory King (Kent, OH). Premiered in September 2021, Birds of Paradise honors and celebrates the enduring nature of queer and marginalized people to shape themselves into something that is desirable, vulnerable, fierce and reborn.
During December 2021, Winter and PWC are in a Technical Residency at NCCAkron to support the evolution of Birds of Paradise. In addition to Technical Residency, the performance version of Birds of Paradise has been translated into gallery space at the Cummings Center for the History of Psychology. Related events at the Cummings Center will be free and open to the public. Click here for more information on the exhibit.
