About the Event

This informal showing offers a unique opportunity to experience the creative process first hand and engage in discussions about the new work, which will premiere at The Movement Project’s 2nd Annual CDF| Akron Concert Series on May 3rd & 4th, 2025.

About the Artist

Christine Howe (she/her) is a dance educator, performer, and maker serving as an Associate Lecturer at The University of Akron. She holds a BFA from The University of Akron and an MFA with performance emphasis from The University of Iowa. She received the Iowa Arts Fellowship and served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant under the direction of Rebekah Kowal. As an educator, she strives to create community environments in the classroom to supports paces of exploration and experimentation to leave students with a sense of creative individuality, an investigative curiosity, and a deep passion to move. As a maker, her choreographic works have been presented by Columbus Contemporary Dance Company, The University of Akron Dance Company, The Cleveland Dance Festival, Take Up Space in Chicago, and Lindenwood University in St. Louis. She is excited to have been selected as The Movement Project's 2025 Choreographic Fellow and Suttle Dance Company (Detroit) Emerging Artist. Her choreographic research works deeply with performance techniques to dance beyond just spectacle, creating empathetic and humanistic connections.

The Movement Project’s mission is to challenge perspectives, evoke social change, and bridge communities through the power of movement. TMP redefines the status quo and questions predetermined notions of what should be. TMP do this by creating thought-provoking work, providing affordable and accessible dance education and performance to all communities, making space for dance, and offering programming and resources that support the needs of today’s local artists.

The CDF | Akron Concert Series is made possible through the generous support of NCCAkron, Akron Public Schools, Ohio Arts Council, Peg’s Foundation, ArtsNow, and other dedicated community partners who are committed to ensuring that dance continues to thrive in Akron. Their contributions have been instrumental in expanding professional dance opportunities and increasing access to high-quality performances for local audiences.

The National Center for Choreography-Akron supports the research and development of new work in dance by exploring the full potential of the creative process. In addition to offering studio and technical residencies to make new work, activities focus on catalyzing dialogue and experimentation; creating proximity among artists and dance thinkers; and aggregating resources around dancemaking. For more information, visit nccakron.org. A discrete organization of its own, separate from The University of Akron but with offices based there, the establishment and general operation of NCCAkron are made possible by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
